A Man’s Glory is His Wife – (Proverbs 12:4)

The translation used here for excellent wife also means noble or honorable wife. This is the picture of a woman grounded in Christ. A wife committed to her husband, a wife who brings honor to her husband and goodness to his life. A woman of godly character, who follows the Lord. These passages paint the picture of something we have forgotten today. And that is the important role the wife and mother plays within the family household, not as a single individual, but as a partner with her husband. The wife and mom are the glue that holds a family together! Moreover, families make up the building block of society, therefore, without whole families we do not have a proper functioning society. That's why families are so important, and that's why the wife's role is so important to society. This is not a coincidence, this is part of God's plan for the family. That a husband and wife together partner for a lifetime to build a family, and thereby a strong society.

This is then contrasted with the woman who lives for herself, who does not give to her husband. A wife who has not cleaved to become one with her husband; but rather has remained separate in her heart and soul. The Lord tells us this situation is like rottenness to their bones, the word used here in the Hebrew denotes a painful condition deep down in the bone. A condition that never gives relief, a condition that is incurable and in the end bring's complete destruction. A condition that destroys both husband and wife. Dear child of God, this message is so important for us today. We have to understand, Satan and this fallen world will only attack the things of God. They together only want destruction to what matters to God. They will therefore seek the destruction of what brings about a happy, God honoring life. That is why they attack the family so vehemently. Satan knows if he can destroy the family, confuse society and redefine the family, he can destroy a society and gain a better chance at turning generations away from God.
