Pride and Anger, the Shortest and Steepest Roads to Destruction – (Proverbs 29:22-23)
Daily Proverbs
Daily Bible Study
These two verses go hand in hand and they speak of human pride verses humility and self-control. Those who cannot control their temper, tongues or ego are prone to anger, sin and self-destructive behavior which brings humiliation. In addition, those who do not forgive and cause themselves to become even angrier as they dwell on things seek only revenge and retaliation. Both of which destroys lives and dishonors God. Moreover, to what end do they do these things? To bring about the destruction of others!
Therefore, an angry person will do what they can, to stir up strife and discord. They will devote time and energy to create discord and animosity. And more often than not they also engage in activities in secret as they seek to hurt those who offended them. Pride is one of the sins most often spoken of in the Proverbs because it leads to so much destruction both to the person who retains it and those around them. Pride promotes foolishness and the mistreatment of others, both of which can lead to eternal separation from God. Both of which make it extremely hard for anyone to truly seek after the Lord.
