During Adversity We Stand Strong in Christ – (Proverbs 24:10)
Daily Proverbs
If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small.
Daily Bible Study
This passage is presented as an observation of the writer. However, it's also speaking of the strength of one's faith and not about one's own physical strength. During times of adversity, where do we stand? Do we flee? Do we look for human help? Or instead do we turn first to the Lord, and in His strength persevere? James in his letter to the church tells us that perseverance comes first by trusting in God. And secondly by remaining steadfast in our trust in the Lord during trials. And that's really the heart of the question being asked here in this passage of proverbs.
Will we faint in the day of adversity? Will we rely on our own strength and suffer destruction? Or will we rely on the Lord, remain steadfast and persevere through His strength? As followers of Christ, we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit who makes intercession for us and brings about a change in our hearts. Part of that change includes placing our trust in God alone and turning to the Lord first and foremost in times of adversity. Knowing that God is sovereign and only the Lord can make all things work together for our good according to God's eternal purposes for us and our lives.
