Daily Bible Study
God's word here in these passages, is giving us both practical and spiritual wisdom we can apply to our daily lives. First, if we live a life where we never reach out, never have friends, never help others, then we will most likely find ourselves alone when our time of need arises. Without friends and family there is no one to help us when we need it most. Without good, solid and healthy relationships with people around us there will be no support system for us in our times of need. Secondly, there is the spiritual principle of reaping and sowing, which tells us that God's blessings in our life were never meant for us to horde to ourselves. God blesses us so that we may have joy in blessing those around us who are in need, and thereby spread the love of Christ to others. Moreover, as followers of Jesus, we are called to use our time, talents and resources to help others and spread the Gospel message around the world. This concept goes as far back as the Old Testament times in ancient Israel.

When the people entered the Promised Land, God instructed farmers not to glean the corners of their field, but to leave them for the poor. God also told the farmers that after they had gone through their fields to harvest the first time, they were not supposed to go back and glean it again, even if they had missed something. Rather, they were to leave some behind, so those who are poor or in need can go, work and harvest food for themselves. This Biblical concept is still expected of us today. Even though as Christians, we will not face judgment. Instead, as followers of Jesus, we will face the "Bema Seat of Christ," where we will give an account of what we did with the blessings, time and talents God has given us and how we have used those in God's service and for the needs of others. In other words, our rewards when entering Heaven will be determined by our love for Jesus, our love for others and our faithfulness to the commands of Jesus to use our time, talents and resources to help those in need and further the spread of the Gospel.
