Wisdom of the Lord, More Precious than Gold – (Proverbs 20:15)

Daily Bible Study
Wealth is a blessing from the Lord when it's honestly gained, why? Because God has blessed us with the talents, intellect and ability to earn it. However, wisdom is still worth more in life and in the eyes of God. In these passages the Bible is not making a judgment call about having wealth, rather the Bible is showing us the comparative value of wealth verses wisdom from the Lord. The wisdom spoken of here is wisdom gained from living a life following the Lord, wisdom which comes from the study of God's word and submitting to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our day to day lives. Wisdom learned through the study of God's word as well as the wisdom learned practically by living a life of faith through trusting in the Lord during the trials of life. We have to remember in God's economy wisdom is simply worth more, especially wisdom which leads to eternal life. The wisdom spoken of here, is godly wisdom.
Wisdom that comes from the Lord, wisdom which leads to life and a life lived more abundantly through a relationship with God. A relationship which is made possible by our faith in Christ. There is no amount of wealth a person can obtain which can replace the saving knowledge and wisdom we have in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore, being poor and wise in Christ is more precious in God's eyes than being foolish and rich without Jesus. Moreover, we have to remember this world is passing away and so to are the things of this world. Ultimately the only thing that matters is who we say Jesus is in our lives and what we do with that knowledge. In other words, how we handle the Gospel message of salvation through faith alone in Christ alone. In addition, we have to understand how we obtain our wealth and what we do with it matters to God. And as James tells us in his New Testament letter to a group of Jewish believers, we have to make sure our wealth does not become a testament against us, showing our rebellion against God, but rather a blessing from our submission to God. A blessing which we share with others as we carry out the work of God.
