God’s Children Should be Known By Honesty and Integrity – (Proverbs 20:10-11)
Daily Proverbs
Daily Bible Study
These passages are speaking about our conduct and about our heart toward others, because of the love we have for Christ. These passages speak about having honesty and integrity in all we do and integrating both into our daily lives by the work of the Holy Spirit as He changes our hearts and minds. They speak about having a wisdom that comes from God as a result of our following the Lord and not a wisdom that comes from following a fallen world. We know that a child's character is developed from an early age. Therefore, it is all the more necessary that we raise our children with honesty, integrity and a fear of the Lord. And we do so by setting ourselves as an example of humility, love and concern before God, by allowing His work in us to continue as we grow in Christ.
Because of our love for Jesus, through the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit, we purposely live as an example to others as we ourselves walk in the fear of the Lord, which is only possible because of our salvation and by our faith in Jesus. To have a "fear of the Lord," means to have a deep-down sense of awe, love and respect for God. In addition, to speaking about our conduct these passages also tell us we are known by our deeds or the fruits of our actions. Actions which stem from a heart in love with the Lord and therefore actions meant as an act of love for God because of who He is and what He has done for us. Which means if we are truly following the Lord, then our hearts should be such that the deeds we perform whether in public or private reflect the love, compassion and concern we have for others, while displaying the humility and joy we have found because of our faith in Christ Jesus our Lord.
