We Gain Wisdom from Following the Lord in Humility – (Proverbs 19:25)

Daily Bible Study
The word used for "knowledge," in these passages, refers to wisdom from God. This includes wisdom from God's word as well as wisdom given to us by the Holy Spirit as part of our following the Lord. And true wisdom, which can only come from God is the primary focus of this passage, which shows us three different types of individuals. They can be classified as the scoffer, the simple and those with an understanding gained from a relationship with God. And by contrasting these three types of people and really what are three different attitudes toward God. The Lord is showing us how our attitude can affect our lives as well as our ability to learn and grow in wisdom. For the scoffer there is no hope, even after being struck they fail to learn. Their hearts, which are filled with anger and hatred, have become hard an impenetrable. However, the simple can learn by watching others who suffer because of their foolishness and bad behavior. Likewise the simple can learn from watching the behavior of the person who has wisdom and trust in the Lord.
For example the simple can learn by watching the scoffer suffer the consequences of their actions or by examining the lives of godly men and women who love the Lord. But neither can compare to those who have gained wisdom from God. Why? Because those who have gained wisdom from God do so because they not only love the Lord, but by faith they have placed their trust in the Lord as well. Moreover, they learn with a word of knowledge, which is found in God's word, the Bible. They can also learn from the teaching of godly men and women who love the Lord. In addition, those who love the Lord and trust in Him learn from simple rebuke. With the work of the Holy Spirit on their hearts and minds, they discern knowledge and grow in wisdom. They read God's word and listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and godly teachers. As followers of Christ and children of God, we need to understand that our pride and ego can cause us to behave like the scoffer or lack wisdom like the simple minded. Therefore, with humility, we follow the Lord. With humility we seek wisdom in the study of God's word, and with humility we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we live our day to day lives.
