We Build Our Families on God's Love – (Proverbs 19:13-14)

Daily Proverbs

A foolish son is the ruin of his father, and the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping. Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

Daily Bible Study
Our families make up one of the most important areas of our lives. And the relationships between parents and children and between husband and wife can not only define us, but determine the quality of our day to day lives. And that's why it's so important for a husband and wife to come together before God, as one in mind, one in heart and one in spirit by a shared faith and love for Jesus. And because of this need to cleave together as one, it's so important that we choose our spouses carefully. Moreover, we need to understand that we live in a fallen world, a world at enmity with God, therefore, the worlds perspective on marriage is not God's perspective. The world's perspective leads to destruction beginning with the destruction of families. And this is why as followers of Jesus, we should always keep in mind that marriage is forever, and we are called by God to give ourselves away in service to our spouses. As Christians, the key motto in life and marriage should be, "it's not about me, it's about others first!" This is the opposite of the way the world thinks. The world, which is in rebellion toward God wants you to believe happiness is about you. Dear believer, understand this, that is a lie from the very pit of Hell. Moreover, it's a lie from Satan and a fallen world at enmity with God, and meant for our destruction! Why? Because sin is never satisfied, it never becomes full and it always wants more.

Sin is never satisfied with its current state, it always wants to grow bigger, grow stronger and hurt more people. Because of our fallen nature, when we focus on ourselves we are never satisfied, we are never full and we will never have enough. God created us for relationship. God created us, especially to have relationships with others and with Him. Moreover, true happiness comes when we fulfill that need we have for a relationship with God, through our faith in Jesus. Jesus restores our relationship with God, and fills us with a supernatural love through the Holy Spirit's work in our hearts and minds. We then fulfill our need for relationships with others when we serve others ahead of ourselves, out of the love God has given us. And for the family this first starts with a husband and wife coming together as one. Therefore, we are to wisely choose godly spouses, because two people single minded in their love for Jesus and for each other, working together can raise a godly family. A family strong in God's word and strong in their love and service of Jesus and each other. Here in these passages God shows us how our rebellion, hatred and sin passed down to our children can destroy a household. And how disharmony between husband and wife can harm a marriage. However, the good news is that everything is new in Christ Jesus our Lord. And through our faith in Jesus, and the work of the Holy Spirit, God can restore all things, even families torn apart by sin and rebellion.
