The Wicked Bring Contempt With Them – (Proverbs 18:3)

Daily Proverbs

When the wicked comes, contempt comes also; and with dishonor comes reproach.

Daily Bible Study
The wicked bring with them contempt, dishonor and reproach. Because of their hatred and rebellion against the Lord, they also bring contempt for anything good or honorable. Since the wicked hate God, they also hate the things of God and especially the people of God. Since their desires are only for themselves, they first devise plans to destroy what foundation already exists, because of their hatred for what belongs to God. The wicked will actively seek out the good things, the things of God and try their best to discredit and destroy them. They know by doing this, they can destroy the foundation upon which everything was built. They do so in an effort to honor themselves as they cause things to collapse around them. Moreover, because of the deceit in their hearts, their destruction will always be wrapped in a lie to justify their actions before others. As followers of Jesus, we have to understand that the wicked live at enmity against God.

The wicked will attack the Bible, the people and the things of God at every opportunity. Their only goal is to bring turmoil, chaos and infighting as they turn one side against the other. They do so in an effort to gain support for their evil ways.  And as those involved in the things of God, turn toward the wicked, they in turn bring reproach and dishonor upon themselves. They do so by allowing their character to be destroyed as they are caught up in the turmoil caused by the wicked. This in turn is part of the goal of the wicked. If they can get God's people to fight, and take their focus off of Jesus, turn against each other and treat each other as the world does, they feel they have achieved the victory. This is how evil spreads and it's empowered by the one the Apostle Paul calls, "the prince of the power of the air," who is Satan. Therefore, our desire is to follow Jesus through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and to fight the good fight, bringing the light of the Gospel to a fallen world, and to provide charity to those in need.
