The Glory Found in a Life Dedicated to Christ – (Proverbs 16:31)
Daily Proverbs
Daily Bible Study
This verse speaks of believers who finish their race well. The glory and blessings of living a life, trusting in God through Christ. A life lived by following the guidance of the Holy Spirit as best we can. Carrying out God's will instead of our own will for a lifetime. Since the incarnation, death and resurrection of Jesus there is only one way to enter into the righteousness of God. And that is through a relationship with Jesus, who then imputes His righteousness to us, thereby reestablishing our relationship with God the Father. A relationship that was broken by sin, a relationship we ourselves were unable to repair. This passage is not speaking of the person who lived a life appearing religious or appeared righteous by all outward appearances. We have to remember God's perspective is not mankind's perspective.
God looks at the heart of a person and their relationship with Christ Jesus our Lord. In addition, this verse is also not speaking of the person who lived a long life and is now well advanced in years. Rather, this verse is speaking of the Christian who in humility and love, lived their life for Jesus. Those older Christians who lived a life, trusting in Him alone for everything. Dear believer, passages like this are so important because they prompt us to consider the end of our lives. To consider now what we want our lives to stand for when our race is complete. When our lives are near their end, what do we want people to say about the life we lived? More importantly, what do we want God to say about the life we lived. Did we live for ourselves or for Jesus? Did we spread his Gospel of salvation and help those in need around us, or did we live for ourselves, seeking the things of a fallen world, instead of the things of God?
