The Wicked Contemplate Destruction Always – (Proverbs 16:28-30)

Daily Proverbs

A perverse man sows strife, and a whisperer separates the best of friends. A violent man entices his neighbor, and leads him in a way that is not good. He winks his eye to devise perverse things; he purses his lips and brings about evil.

Daily Bible Study
The book of Proverbs is truly a book for life. There so many sections where God has blessed us with practical advice and insight into the hearts of people, as well as given us practical wisdom for day to day life. Proverbs shows us both the good and bad in human nature. God's wisdom given to us in these specific passages, speak of the day to day activities and attitudes in the heart of the wicked and the actions they display. These passages truly show us the heart of the wicked, which is hidden from us by their deception. The wicked spend their time devising plans to carry out division and strife, and they do so in order to bring about destruction and loss for others. The first thing we should do is ask ourselves, "do we carry any of these habits in our day to day lives?"

If we do, then we need to repent and turn to the Lord and pray for God's power to change. As we read these passages we see the habits of the wicked, they gossip to sow strife and to separate friends. They trick people into doing things for the benefit of themselves. The phrase "winking the eye" was a common idiom referring to deception and the phrase "pursing the lips" was also a common idiom used to describe someone deep in thought. Together they paint the picture of someone deep in thought or contemplation on how best to deceive those around them. And here God is telling us the wicked spend their time devising perverse things, ways to manipulate, hurt and destroy others. Dear Christian, if any of these attitudes can be found in us, then we must remove them immediately. And we must do so through prayer, repentance and by following the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our day to day lives.
