Run From the Presence of a Fool – (Proverbs 14:7-9)
Daily Proverbs
Daily Bible Study
These passages once again remind us to avoid association with foolish, wicked people, who are in rebellion against God. Avoid those whose lack of discernment causes them to mock the impending judgment heading their way. Nothing good can ever come from associating with a fool. Fools only seek destruction and chaos. And as a result, they will drain from your life and joy, as they seek only to convert you to their foolish behavior. Fools only deceive themselves, because they have so warped their perspective, they actually believe they are fooling God. The fool forgets that God looks at the intents and desires of the heart and not just the actions we perform. God looks not just at the things we say, but the motivations behind the things we say.
The fool does not understand that in reality, they have stored up wrath against themselves for the day of God's wrath and judgment. The term, "lips of knowledge" refers to the wisdom gained from the study of God's word and from following the Lord, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. This term refers to wisdom taught by God and not from men. This refers to wisdom learned through the study of God's word, by a child of God through faith. The foolish person lacks this knowledge because they are in rebellion against God. Fools mock sin, not because they don't recognize it as being wrong. They mock sin in order to mask their desire to keep living in it. Their mocking is a form of deflection away from their real desires, which is to rebel against the Lord, live at enmity with God, and continue in sin. They are purposely unaware of their own destruction, in order to maintain their rebellion and sin.
