Righteousness Leads to a Joyous Life – (Proverbs 12:24-26)

The hand of the diligent will rule, but the lazy man will be put to forced labor. Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad. The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray.

Nothing has a greater effect on our day to day lives than the friends we have, the thoughts we think, the desires we have and the amount of stress that invades our daily lives. God promises in His word those who live a righteous life through faith in Him, though they will face trials, will have a joyous life. However, God also warns us that those who do wickedly will have heartache, fear, anxiety and be led astray. Whether we are righteous or wicked is truly a matter of where our heart is toward God and our faith in Jesus. Because only the Holy Spirit can bring true joy and peace to our hearts.

And only our salvation through faith in Jesus will bring the indwelling of the Holy Spirit into our lives. Our heart is led by our desires and our desires directs our emotions. Our emotions in turn guide our actions and through our actions we sow a life. Where we stand with God is the first step in this chain reaction from our desires, to our thoughts and finally to our actions. For those who accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior and seek after good, our desires are from God and the things of God. Therefore, our thoughts should be on the grace, the Lord has given to us, what Jesus did for us and how God can use us in this dark and lost world.
