God Brings Us Mercy and Truth – (Proverbs 14:22)

The phrase used in this verse for "mercy and truth" has several meanings, including "constant faithfulness", "true loyalty" and "grace and truth." All of them describe what God has in store for all those whom He calls His children. Those whose hearts have been reconciled with God through our faith in Christ. Moreover, these terms also describe the changes that take place in our hearts because of our salvation and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Each and every follower of Jesus is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit carries out God's process of spiritual growth in us called "Sanctification." Sanctification is the process whereby the Holy Spirit works with our new spirit, which was given to us at the time of our salvation, to change our hearts and minds from the inside out.

This process of spiritual growth carried out by the Holy Spirit in us, is constantly changing our hearts and minds. Through the work of God in us, we are transformed into a new creation in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore, these terms have their quintessential meaning of what Jesus has done for all those who place their faith in Him alone. He changes us to conform to His image, through the Holy Spirit's work in our hearts and minds. Jesus who is fully God, stepped out of eternity and took on humanity because of His overwhelming love for a fallen creation. Jesus because of His grace and mercy took on the Cross of Calvary that we may have eternal life through Him. And that we do so through our faith alone. This is the free gift from God for all us who call Jesus our Lord, our Savior and our God. Therefore, our true loyalty is with Jesus, who is the Lord of our lives. Moreover, the focus of our hearts now and forevermore is Jesus who redeemed us by His blood shed for us on the Cross.
