A Man is Fed By the Fruit of His Mouth – (Proverbs 13:2-3)

In these passages the Lord is giving us another basic truth regarding our relationships with others and the world around us. Our relationships and how well we do in our day to day lives can depend on how we handle our communications with others. There are numerous passages throughout God's word where He tells us that the person who tames his tongue has wisdom and joy. While the fool who does not control his tongue will have calamity and shame. For the Christian this can be especially true. How we communicate with others affects our Christian witness. It affects how we are perceived by those we meet and those who observe us from a distance. And through word of mouth, it can affect our reputation with those we will meet in the future.
As followers of Christ, we are to have love and compassion for those who are lost. Moreover, we are to beware of the sin of pride, which can cause self-righteous behavior. Self-righteous behavior can quickly remove the love in our heart for others and hinder or destroy our ministry for Christ. As followers of Jesus, we are to have a heart for God, for His word and for others, especially those in need. This is not something we can do under our own will power, but rather, by the power of the Holy Spirit who indwells all believers. Through our love for Jesus, our regular study of God's word and our daily submission to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, God restores our heart of flesh and gives us a sensitivity to the needs of those around us as we develop a love for others. This is then reflected in how we think as well as how we speak to those around us.
