A Lazy Man, Like Satan Seeks Destruction – (Proverbs 18:9)

Daily Bible Study
This verse speaks of the heart of the wicked, the heart of the lazy man who because of the slothful desires of his heart refuses to complete his work or to do a good job. Someone who in their heart knows they are not trying their best. Someone who knows in their own heart the work they have performed is useless or even worst is of poor quality or just bad for others. They do not care for those who hired them, nor those they work with, but only for what they can receive for themselves. Therefore, like pride, their slothful behavior will lead to their own destruction. The Bible tells us the person who does this, whether they realize it or not, because of their intentional actions is a brother to the great destroyer who is Satan.
Their actions bring destruction to others and in the end they support the work of Satan in this world. Because like Satan this type of activity only seeks to destroy what others try to build up. This behavior seeks to scoff and tear down the efforts of others to build up. A person who performs this activity does not seek the well being of others, but harbors envy, hatred and destruction. Moreover, those who practice slothfulness in reality seek the desires of their own heart purposely at the cost and harm of others. And that's basically the message at the heart of these passages. As followers of Jesus, we are called to use our time, talents and resources to further the spread of the Gospel and to help those in need around us. The selfish, destructive behavior of the slothful person, spoken of in these passages, is a behavior that is in direct rebellion to Christ Jesus our Lord.
