Daily Bible Study
Just as Jesus loved us and gave His life as a ransom for many, we too are called to love one another and look out for the best interest of those we meet. Why? Because God loves the poor, the widow and those in need and God will watch over and comfort them. We can read in the Bible as God calls people in both in the Old and New Testament to help those around them. God has blessed us with resources and wealth, not so we can bless ourselves, but that we may be better able to bless those around us in need and help spread the Gospel of Christ to a lost and dying world. In ancient Israel when this psalm was written all farmers at harvest time were required to leave the corners of every field un-harvested to help the poor.

In addition, God did not allow the farmers to go through their fields a second time to make sure they got the last piece of produce or grain after harvesting. God did this as a "safety net," for those who were poor and in need. God's law allowed for those who were in need to go into these fields, and through their own labor, harvest food for themselves and their families. God gave this law because of His love for the poor and the needy. God provided for their sustenance while still giving them the opportunity and pride of putting in a day's work. Therefore, those who mock the poor, the homeless, the widow and those in need are a reproach to God. God has blessed us with time, talents and resources in order that we can be a blessing to those in need around us and help spread the light of salvation to those who are lost.
